The Chakras are energy centers along the spine located at major branching of the human nervous system, beginning at the base of the spinal column and moving upward to the top of the skull. The study of one's Chakra system provides a source of information to practitioners and allows each individual's physical, emotional, and spiritual energy level to be assessed. The ease or difficulty with which a person performs specific yoga movements indicates to the Yogi if a chakra is "blocked" or "open." Once the condition has been determined the Yogi can choose a specific Kriya (yoga set) that will focus on one particular chakra which in turn benefits the entire body.
This story taps into Chakra seven work.
Heather taught me that in Kundalini Yoga breathing is the most important element. In life the two most important breaths one takes are, the first coming into this world, and the last when one exits. Recently I witnessed the death of my grandmother. About 8 hours before she died my grandmother appeared to have a light above the crown of her head. (Chakra 7) Although she was semi-conscious she would look up toward the ceiling and whisper as though she could see someone and she was speaking to them. Grandma was very frail but her mind had remained relatively clear. At one point she suddenly raised her arm to the ceiling. Who was she reaching for? What did she see? Being with my Grandmother during her last breath showed me the power of the Spirit. Following her death I could feel tightening painful muscles on the left side of my heart and shoulder blade. The left side of the body is the female side-and I used my healing chants and fourth chakra work to ease the agony as I allowed myself to grieve.
